The little girl in me

The little girl in me, she said very quietly,
I see you each day at a distance from me,
You seem to have tried a hundred new ways,
Fallen and risen on a thousand bad days,
Now you wonder if you had plenty of this,
Oft-times it seems like a somber abyss.
Let me remind you, when you were me,
A zillion plus one was a number surely,
The largest of all and worthy the boast,
Did you notice it then or merely ran by the post,
As day turned to dusk, we ran up the hills,
Not a count mattered then, the run was a bliss.
The little girl in me, she asked curiously,
I see your life plans are stacked perfectly,
Yet you are here, battered by stress,
Scared that you may land in a mess,
You’ve built mansions and created beauty,
But you see through them as in irony.
Let me remind you, when you were me,
Puzzles and puddles filled you with glee,
All day long we talked of possibilities,
Dreams that stretched past realities,
Can we step back at times from this race,
Laugh a little when we find dirt on our face.
Listen little girl in me, you ‘ve brightened my day,
Brilliantly simple, things that you say,
So much laughter, I’ve missed on my way,
Little skip and jump, on a successful day,
Grateful my friend, that you ‘ve set me free,
Were you always this smarter than me.
